2022.05.04 – Leila Sibai’s participation to Side Event The Manifold Impacts of Enforced Disappearance in Syria

Leila Sibai, co-founder and board member of Huquqyat, participated to a side event on the manifold impact of enforced disappearance co-organise: Families for Freedom, The Caesar Families Association, The Coalition of Families of Persons Kidnapped by ISIS (Massar), Dawlaty, The Syria Campaign, The International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ), The Mission of Switzerland to the EU, The Permanent Representation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the EU and The Permanent Representation of Luxembourg to the EU. 

​The side event aimed to amplify the voices of Syrian victims’ groups in their struggle for truth,  justice, and accountability and to highlight the urgency of the wide-scale legal, social, and psychological consequences arising from arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance in Syria. It provided an opportunity to discuss the manifold impacts of enforced disappearance and arbitrary detention in Syria, and strengthen comprehension of the extent and enduring nature of the double-victimization resulting from these crimes.
