Huquqyat participated, as part of a coalition comprising 27 Syrian civil society organizations and victims\u2019 associations, in the development and launch of a report titled \u201cPaths to Criminal Accountability in Syria,\u201d which proposes a framework for effective and credible criminal accountability in Syria, at a time when trials have begun taking place in Damascus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report is based on an eight-month consultation process and brought together the perspectives of Syrian legal experts, victims\u2019 and survivors\u2019 associations, and civil society actors, with the aim of developing a practical vision for accountability pathways grounded in international standards and ensuring the meaningful participation of victims and survivors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report focuses on several key elements necessary for building legitimate and credible accountability processes, including the legal qualification of crimes in line with international law, fair trial guarantees, and victim participation, in addition to providing practical recommendations for relevant national and international actors. It also emphasizes the importance of ensuring that justice pathways in Syria are inclusive, grounded in victims\u2019 rights, and inseparable from the requirements of transitional justice and the rule of law. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
