Huquqyat and the Syrian Center for Legal Studies and Research (SCLSR) have published a concise report exposing the siege and starvation tactics inflicted on civilians by the Assad regime in the south of Damascus. Leila Sibai and Mariana Karkoutly, Huquqyat co-founder and report authers, initiated this research in the context of SCLSR’s engagement in the Moafak D. case and Huquqyat’s closing investigation into the events of Ali Al-Wahsh. In their work investigating specific instances of violations that took place during the siege of Yarmouk and South Damascus, both parties found it necessary to develop a comprehensive report enabling a contextual understanding of the siege of South Damascus and its impact on the local population. The research also involves crucial legal analysis supported by Global Rights Compliance (GRC), that sheds the light on the legal aspects of the crime.
