Lawyer and Huquqyat member, Rasha Shahbaz, published an article on the MENA Prison Forum platform addressing issues of justice, prisons, and violations related to detention in the Syrian context, within the framework of the ongoing discussions on transitional justice and accountability after years of conflict and grave violations.
The article sheds light on the importance of adopting an approach centered on victims and survivors in dealing with issues of detention, torture, and enforced disappearance, and on the necessity of integrating these files into any serious path toward justice and accountability in Syria. It also discussed the challenges related to preserving memory and documenting violations, and the role of human rights actors and civil society in pushing toward justice paths that are more comprehensive and more responsive to the Syrian context.
