Huquqyat member, lawyer Linda Osman, participated in an advocacy mission on Syria held in Brussels between 11 and 13 May 2026, which focused on the political transition in Syria and the role of the European Union in supporting a comprehensive approach based on human rights and accountability.

Linda Osman’s intervention focused on women’s participation in transitional justice processes and the political process, as well as the legal challenges related to accountability in Syria, including the absence of gender-sensitive mechanisms and the inadequacy of legal frameworks addressing conflict-related sexual and gender-based violence. She also emphasized the importance of aligning Syrian legislation with international law and ratifying relevant international instruments.

The mission concluded with a roundtable at the European Parliament titled “Syria at a Crossroads: Protection, Accountability and an Inclusive Transition,” with the participation of Syrian civil society representatives, Members of the European Parliament, and international stakeholders concerned with Syria.
